linux post & stuff

i have finally upgraded my pc to run linux manjaro... yay! it used to be dualbooting windows10/linux mint. i originally had to dualboot due to certain softwares being unavailable on linux. another tidbit is that this pc was untouched for 5 months due to a network issue that has now finally been resolved. in that timespan i was simply using my macbook air M1 for everything... until now.

i am happy to be on linux because i hate windows (lol). the reason i picked manjaro is because it was one of the first distros i used when i originally started messing around with linux when i was in highschool, and i have only had good experiences with it. i know it has some hatred in the linux community and stuff but it is what it is.

the big issue was "how do i use clip studio paint" well theres a really cool script that adds quality of life to running it on linux and so far this script has been amazing for me. it takes about 30-45 seconds to boot clip studio paint, but once it runs it runs good & my wacom tablet has pen pressure and everything. the only issue i have is that it is always in the back of my other programs, so i have to minus everything else to view it. i saw others had this issue on github so it's not just me... and it seems like there might be a fix so i still have to mess around with settings.

this section is to document some errors i had while installing using the script, in case others have the same issue. fortunately the log for this script is very straight-forward, if you go into it, it will tell you what to do. originally i got the "ERROR: corefonts cjkfonts vcrun2022 dotnet48 dxvk vkd3d failed" - for me this meant installing these and trying again. after this, i had an issue with viewing clip studio paint's installshield wizard - it would appear as a very small white screen with no information. i decided to let it time out and received this error: "Wine cannot find the FreeType font library." once again, after i installed this font library, everything began working - the install screen actually had text and wasn't just a blank white window.

also unrelated i feel like linux has so many more contributions now compared to when i used it the first time years ago. i can play roblox on here! very cool. (although it crashes with really custom-heavy games like dress to impress which sucks but understandable). i traded visual studio code for code - oss and its like basically the same program visually. i use fooyin as my music player (i finally ditched spotify fuck you spotify). i have yet to customize my terminal but one day i shall.

anyways thats my linux post ... everyone use linux now!!!! lets make the world Linux~~~
